About Me
I was born and raised in the small town of Terrace, British Columbia. Always creating, I grew up taking art classes in the community, learning from my grandmother and being encouraged by my family and friends. Collette Goutier-Stewart, fellow artist, teacher, and friend inspired me to follow my dream of becoming an art teacher and mentored me along the way.
During my undergraduate degree, I took summer jobs teaching kids art lessons at the Terrace Art Gallery, and produced artwork for group and solo art shows in the community.
After attaining a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Art from the University of Victoria, I returned to live and work in Terrace. I have been lucky to gain experience in teaching at the elementary level as well as in various secondary level Visual Arts courses in School District 82 since September 2010. Now, I own and run an art studio called The Painted Squirrel where I teach a variety of art classes and programs for kids and adults.

About My Art
My past artwork has explored the concept of visual memory and how it changes, evolves, and fades over time. Inspired by images of objects and places that have specific personal meaning, I worked primarily from memory. The resulting images are skewed depictions of remembered landscapes or spaces, reinforcing the idea that visual memory is an individual experience rather than concrete facts.
This process of recreating from memory led me to paint in a space between the second and third dimension. I like to challenge perceptions of reality by painting in both two dimensions and three in one image. Many of my paintings result in abstractions because of the memory-like qualities I aim for when creating them.
My current artwork continues to be inspired by nature, abstraction, and surrealism and I am always exploring new ideas and new subject matter. The design world has inspired me to bring geometry into my work and I am enjoying creating balance and contrast between inorganic and organic forms.
