I finally got my silkscreen prints done on my two t-shirts in class today, thanks to some helpful students:) The eagle was designed for a separate project (coming soon) but I used the screen to print the image on the side of these shirts so I had some eagle tees for myself! Its a bit hard to tell but the shirt on the right is printed with grey, even though it looks slightly blue. Here is a front view: Aaand last but not least, here's a little teaser showing my latest artwork. Not sure if it's done so you can't see it in full juuuust yet. Recognize anything?

This is one of two photos I have of the mask I made in my ceramics course I took at UVic a few years ago. It got stolen off the wall at school and I'm still upset!! I put many hours into this one and it meant a lot as it symbolizes living in the north. Let me know if you see it on someone's wall (and then STEAL it!!) or if you've previously seen it ruthlessly smashed in a dumpster somewhere:) This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar.
Coming soon...new artwork created by myself and Marc Eliuk in oil paint! Two artist's ideas on one canvas, a very surreal start made by Marc is waiting for its next layers by me! (Wish me luck...)
I can't express how lucky I've been in getting an amazing job teaching what I love for the past two years. What makes it great, besides the students and art of course, is the AMAZING colleagues I get to work with on a daily basis. I've mentioned Collette Goutier-Stewart in the past, who taught me art in grade 11 AND sponsored me during my final practicum as a student teacher. What an amazing artist, teacher, and person! I am forever grateful to have worked with her (and to hopefully work together again in the future) and to be supported by her throughout my student life and beginning of my career.
Speaking of AWESOME people, another colleague of mine has been a great inspiration and collaborator on many ideas and projects since September, and some collaborative artworks are hopefully going to be in the works soon. I have the pleasure and honour to work with Marc Eliuk, talented artist and amazing coworker, and I thought I'd share with you his website and facebook pages, in case you haven't already checked those out. They are definitely worth a visit!! http://www.artzmark.com Marc's Facebook page Thanks for visiting! AMAZING student art will be up at Don Diego's restaurant in Terrace B.C. for the month of March! Artwork will be available for purchase through bidding for the whole month as a fundraiser for Caledonia's Prom activities. It will definitely be worth a visit.
The member's show in the lower gallery is up! Pay a visit to the Terrace Art Gallery from now until January 8th to see an impressive mix of art styles and media in the lower gallery as well as the watercolour works of Melanie Sinnott in the upper gallery! There is some really exciting work showing so definitely go check it out. Admission is always free:)
I feel extremely lucky and grateful to have landed a full time job at my own high school teaching Photography, Art, and Yearbook! It's a busy time, but I absolutely love it. The students, teachers, and other staff members continue to amaze me every day. I have many people to thank for helping me along the way including parents, teachers, administrators, students, colleagues, friends...the list goes on.
On another note...I just finished some work on a painting called "A Wine Dark Dream" that I am putting in the December member's show at the Terrace Art Gallery called Winter Solstice. Come on out to the opening night, Friday December 10th! Thank you all for your support. Well the practicum has come and gone, along with six years of hard but FUN work at UVic. I completed my Bachelor of Education and now I am just waiting on those final papers from the BC College of Teachers. Time to get back to some painting! I just bought a 24 set of watercolour crayons which are going to be my next medium to explore...on a new kind of canvas...skin!
Hi everyone and thanks for visiting my website! Feel free to email me or comment on the blog at any time. I'd love to hear from you!
